AUDITION NOTICES FOR ADULT CAST
On The Towne Community Theatre announces auditions for its next adult cast production! Auditions are August 28 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM and August 29 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, at 42207 N. 45th Drive, Anthem. Parts are available for six active mature-type ladies and two men.

The production will be two one-act plays by Carol Woods, “Ladies At Lunch” and “Ladies At Poker.” “Ladies At Lunch” is about six active mature ladies who meet for lunch each week. Between their arranging of chairs, sharing OTC medications, discussing mammograms and men, they give the waiter and manager a really bad day. “Ladies At Poker" features the same ladies meeting at Suzie’s house to play poker, which they know little about. Suzie’s husband sticks his two-cents-worth in, and the game disintegrates into a sharing of make-up and poker-bridge. As usual, men are part of the discussion.

These very funny short plays will be performed October 15 and 16 at Cross of Christ Church. Rehearsals will be about twice a week starting after Labor Day, with the schedule being arranged among the cast.

REMEMBER THE TITANS
The Foothills Titans Baseball Club will be holding a skill development camp for their youth program in September. The camp will be for players between the ages of nine and fourteen. The focus of the Titans program is to develop players for continued success in the game of baseball at the high school and collegiate levels, as well as promoting social responsibility, respect, and quality character traits in each child. The program is hoping to provide an affordable and flexible plan to help meet the needs of area children.

This initial mini-camp is tentatively scheduled to begin on September 21, 2010, and will cost $100 per player. The camp will run four evenings a week for three weeks at the Anthem ball fields (exact times and locations are still to be determined). Please note that this camp is open to all players, not only those interested in becoming part of the Titans organization. This camp will serve as a way for all players to learn and develop their skills. At the end of camp the interested and qualified players will be divided into teams, and monthly instruction and play will continue from that point.

MTA IN THE NEWES!
The Musical Theater of Anthem (MTA) has had a month full of excitement. First, the news came that Nickelodeon’s Parents Connect Parent’s Picks Award nominated them for Best Theatre Group for Kids in Arizona. MTA is one of five nominated theatre groups in Arizona with the winner being determined entirely by the number of votes online and via text messaging. Voting for this award will continue through until August 31.

The second piece of good news came when MTA, in their first year of eligibility for ariZoni Awards, received an astounding fourteen nominations. Jackie Hammond, MTA’s Producing Artistic Director, says, “We are thrilled and honored with the amount of nominations, not only because it is our first year of being eligible for the ariZonis, but also because our youth shows are no-cut and feature performers ages six to fourteen. This means that we are competing with other youth theaters that cast youth performers up to age nineteen!”

It is often said that “good news comes in three’s.” With this in mind, MTA should not have been surprised that more awards and nominations were on the horizon.

On August 2nd, MTA announced that they had been awarded three National Youth Theatre Awards and an additional seven nominations for performances in their 2009-10 Season! Awards include Outstanding Ensemble for The Wizard of Oz, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical (ages thirteen and under) to Madeline Wessel for her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical (ages thirteen and under) to Hannah Long for her role as the Lion in The Wizard of Oz. Nominations include Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical (ages thirteen and under) to Kailyn Toussaint for her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical (ages thirteen and under) to Maggie Eley as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, Peyton Wayne as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, Maddie Lopez as the Lion in The Wizard of Oz, and Jaci Wells as the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz, as well as Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (ages thirteen and under) to Taylor Ellsworth for her role as Clarissa in Little Women and Madeline Wessel for her role as Young Amy in Little Women.

Congratulations to MTA and all of the award winners and nominees!

Directors of the Anthem Community Council (ACC) and members of the Anthem Veterans Memorial Planning Committee (AVMPC) gathered in the Community Park where the Memorial will be constructed. A sign with the November 11, 2011 opening date and a rendering of the Memorial was erected to mark the site location.

Funds for the construction of the Memorial are being raised through the sale of inscribed commemorative brick pavers.
