Ridin' down the highway, looking for adventure? You don't have to go far down I-17 to find the "guy's dream-come-true": the ultimate motorcycle.
Brigitte and Roger Bourget have built their Phoenix based custom motorcycle business from the ground up. Roger started modifying Harleys in his garage over 12 years ago, and eventually reached the point where he was building his own bikes from scratch. His enthusiasm and drive for perfection has made the Bourget bike one of the most sought-after custom bikes in the world.
Bourget's Bike Works, Inc. now occupies 36,000 square feet near the Deer Valley Airport . Because of high demand, their state of the art manufacturing and production facility will soon double in size. The company manufactures most pieces from scratch, including the brakes, wheels, frames, gas tanks and handlebars. The bikes use S&S engines that the company polishes, customizes and adds Nitrous. |
If you buy one of Bourget's bikes, you will likely have the only one in the neighborhood. The manufacturing process is very labor intensive, and the company turns out only 20 bikes every week. And you'll be paying from $36,000 upwards to $100,000 for these custom works of art. Roger admits to having many celebrity athletes and entertainers that buy his bikes, such as Kid Rock, Ja Rule, Ken Griffey Jr., Gabe White, and Wycliff Jean. He has a wall that bears the signatures of the celebrities that have been to the facility.
Bourget's Bike Works, Inc. has been featured in too many publications and media specials to list. Local news stations and the Discovery Channel have featured this "Lamborghini of motorcycles" on more than several occasions. Publications such as Hot Bike Magazine, American Iron, and Iron Works have dubbed Bourget's Bikes the "must have" custom bike of the millennium.
These extreme precision machines are hand made. The frame sets the Bourgets above the rest. It is the strongest on the market, featuring a patented drop seat and oil-in-frame chassis. The company designs each bike to fit the intended rider and provide maximum comfort. |
Production for a custom bike is a 12 week process from ordering to delivery. After the beginning stages are complete, the actual building takes about 1 week. The process consists of multiple stages, and upon completion of each stage, the bike is tested and re-tested for quality assurance. The custom frame is hand bent to specifications. The wiring is custom finished and the wheels are turned from aluminum on premises. The seat is color coordinated and custom stitched to match each frame.
Even though these motorcycles are used for transportation, they can be rightly called works of art. Roger, the lead artist and designer, is getting ready to unveil the 2005 model in August, which he enthusiastically calls his best yet. |

Roger employs around 55 in the Deer Valley facility with up to 100 around the state. The employees are mostly bikers themselves, and their enthusiasm for their work and the end product shows. The best company perk? Test-driving each completed product - every bike must undergo 40 hours of rigorous tests, and some of that must be out on the road.
